Designing the layout we wanted to hint at a “symbolic return” Lorena family’s archive from the city where it is now stored at the one where he was drafted. Not only that, the material returned to a reality irrevocably altered in its imagery and, more, for one and evasive action. So, in order to reiterate this ephemeral presence, the exhibition’s design wanted to suspend in the air the material (maps and drawings of architectures) and define a methodological visiting path of the whole exposition, suggesting sections arranged laterally with respect to the main axis . The space was defined by soft red velvet curtains, alternating with “hard volumes”, with clear reference to fragments of military fortifications. In the semi-darkness of the show the busts of the last grand dukes stood out, silent presence among the curious visitors.
