The project aims to “rebuild” what looks like a ‘fragment of missing city’, so as to create a continuity with the neighbouring, integrating historical, architectural and urban elements already present.
It is conceived as a neighbourhood, with two opposing poles at the end of the axis of the main road: the square on the north side and a equipped green area, in the extreme south.
Behind the project is the metaphor of the “door” as entrance to the fortified city, which generates the “square”. The square is surrounded by an architectural ring, which defines an “urban vacuum”. Public facilities, the social centre and the rest home are the “hinge” between the existing and the new square which holds, at street level, a porch with commercial activities and, on the upper floors, high density housing.
