For the installation of the new Tel Aviv central cemetery, located on the North- East of the city, on a land subject to flooding, the project required a focus on cleaning up and proceeded to the raising of the height, forming an artificial hill. The ellipse-shaped general plant coincides with the shape of the new hill, cut by two systems of paths that divide the system into six independent areas.
The large parking areas are joined by a ring road, on which there are the “doors” and the cemetery services, which guarantees the fast flow of cars and the orientation that, in a complex of this size, it is an important question. Thank to this facility the distance between parking lots and interior are reduced to a minimum.
The dual system of internal paths sees alternating wavy avenues, prepared and granted also for motorized vehicles and service for the disabled.
The median and pedestrian system is the ceremonial route, marked by “squares” and thick vegetation that mend the rigidly orthogonal system of the lots subdivision, with the burials. It should be noted that the Jewish burial provides only the interment so this structure was born from the intention of optimizing the use of the land.
The system of green, in particular high trunk, is concentrated on paths, thus ensuring a good shading and the apex of the park cemetery is a garden in the heart of the entire system. Green is incorporated into the guidance system, featuring the different zones with the essences.
